| What
is it |
Security SetUp is a 'security
shell' for Windows 9x / ME and partially Windows NT. The software will allow you to
edit the security settings build into Windows by Microsoft.
Security settings can also be accessed via PolEdit.exe (a fairly complex and complicated
utility supplied free by Microsoft). The goal of Security SetUp is to make this task
simple, fast and uncomplicated. Security SetUp is very intuitive and comes with easy
to use build in help.
|
| Who
is the target group |
Security SetUp is useful to a wide
range of people;
- Households with children
- System administrators
- Schools
- Internet cafe's
Registered users range from private homes, schools, internet
cafes, law enforcement agencies to printer manufacturers.
If kids, users etc. constantly change the settings of the
PC's you carefully setup thus causing you a tremendous time waste, you will find this tool
very useful. The software can be used by both experienced system administrators and
concerned parents, its very easy to use and contain a comprehensive online helpfile (I do
however advice some basic experience with windows).
|
| What
can it do |
By using Security SetUp you
will be able to:
- Disable changes of Printer settings
- Disable changes of Network settings
- Disable changes of the desktop (resolution, colors)
- Disable AutoRun (CD-ROM)
- Specify what program-files that can be executed
- Hide items in the Control panel
- Disable the Control panel
- Activate / deactivate special items in the start-menu
- Etc Etc. all in all more than 50 security functions.
Security SetUp will not:
- Password protect Windows
- Encrypt data / folders
- Prevent users from deleting files
Please note that Security SetUp is not designed for use in
environments that use Policies. Administrators might however still find it useful,
but it will not replace PolEdit in such environments.
Security SetUp will allow you to decide what the user will be
able to change (within the limits of the program of cause), E.g. when a PC is set up
properly there is no reason for anyone to make changes to the hardware profile thus this
can be disabled.

| Compability |
Security SetUp was
designed for Microsoft Windows 98, however it is fully compatible with Microsoft Windows
95 and Windows ME, it even works partially with Microsoft NT (some features however does
only work on Win 98 / ME or require that you install Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 / 5.0
or higher).

Yes |
A few functions aimed at Win 98 have no effect
(these functions are mentioned in the help file), a few other functions only has any
effect if you have IE 4.0 (Internet Explorer 4.0) installed. The functions aimed at
Win 98 and IE 4.0 will simply be ignored if Win 98 / IE 4.0 is not installed on your PC
(they will not disrupt anything or cause failures).
